Kirrie Hill is an extensive quarried outcrop on the eastern outskirts of the pleasant country town of Kirriemuir. It has a great outlook over the Strathmore Valley and is both sheltered and sunny in equal measure. All year round climbing is possible as seepage is rare and indeed the bulk of the original development was carried out between December 2006 and the end of April 2007. It is particularly family-friendly with a park, a Peter Pan-themed Neverland play area and toilets located conveniently beside the parking above the crag. The crag has a wide variety of grades but is a rare sport venue in that a good number of the climbs are 6a or below.
The rock is a softish sandstone and does require careful handling in places. However, on the well established lines this has become less of a problem. No stars are given to avoid over-popularity damaging the starred routes but in terms of choice, ‘what you see is what you get\'.
