Shepherd's Crag

Shepherd's Crag lies close to the road that runs alongside Derwent Water and is the northern Lakes' most popular crag. Ease of access, loads of routes across the grades and a quick-drying nature ensures that it sees ascents throughout the year. The crag consists of three main sections each easily reached by a good path along the base. The climbs themselves will appeal to all climbers, ranging from classic multi-pitch lower-grade expeditions to hard pitches in the extreme grades. The general ambience is friendly with large areas to gear up and relax between routes. For many visitors it is the classics of Little Chamonix, Ardus, Adam and Eve, and the Brown Slabs routes that are the main attraction and these routes are often busy - queues are common! If the popular routes are occupied it is worth having a scout around the crag. There is plenty on offer across the grades and you could find a hidden gem all to yourself if you are lucky?
