Liathach

Liathach comprises a range of seven tops forming an 8km chain running east to west on the north side of Glen Torridon, towering directly above the road. The highest point on Liathach is Spidean a\' Choire Leith at alt 1054m, mid-way between Stuc a\' Choire Dhuibh Bhig, alt 913m, guarding the east end of the chain, and Mullach an Rathain alt 1023m, at the west end above Torridon village. A broad shoulder extends west for 2km from Mullach an Rathain rising slightly to Sgorr a\' Chadail before dropping steeply, but easily, down to Coire Mhic NĂ²buil and the footpath. In winter the mountain is transformed to produce some of the best icefall climbing in Britain. The traverse of the mountain gives one of the classic ridge expeditions of the mainland, with sensationally exposed views onto the surrounding prehistoric hills of the Torridon area.
