[Beedyan nam Bee-an] Bidean nam Bian literally translates as Mountain of the Animal Pelts, but it is likely to be a corruption of Bidean nam Beann, The Peak of the Mountains or Chief of the Hills.
Bidean's great northern corrie has some of the best mixed climbing in Glen Coe, but it is far less busy than Stob Coire nan Lochan. It is high, it comes into condition quickly and it has an air of adventure which more than justifies the longer approach.
There are three main buttresses. Diamond Buttress and Church Door Buttress sit just under the summit of Bidean. They are separated by Central Gully, at the foot of which lies Collie's Pinnacle. Further right again is a series of crags coming down from Bidean's West Top. All three are excellent and have quite distinct characters.
