North of Tain, beyond the Dornoch Firth, is Loch Fleet – a tidal estuary and nature reserve. The road crosses via a causeway (The Mound), named after the craggy hill (Mound Rock) just to its north. The crags, all conglomerate, are on either side of the estuary and offer a range of grades from 2 to low 7s. It is worth noting that this area can be dry when it is raining on the west coast and it only takes an hour to get here via Lairg from Laxford Bridge.
