Little Torboll

This useful little crag lies on the north side of Creag an Amalaidh, or Princess Cairn, the distinctive hill opposite Mound Rock overlooking Loch Fleet. The crag lies within The Mound Alderwoods, a SSSI that is one of the UK\'s largest and best examples of alder woodland on estuarine floodplains, and an important habitat for breeding wetland birds. It is quickly and easily accessed from the minor road which runs north-west from the south side of The Mound causeway across Loch Fleet, about 1km to the south of the Creag Bheag layby. The left fork of this road passes a few houses at Little Torboll, after which the crag has been named. It provides pleasant climbing on pocketed, waterworn rock, right next to the road. Although north facing, the crag is surprisingly dry and has the added benefit of having the car near to hand. The climbs are squeezed-in close to each other to get as much as possible out of this venue.
