One of the finest hills in Scotland, Foinaven (911m) consists of a long crest of quartzite with a complex of corries and lateral ridges running off north-east. The main ridge offers some brief easy scrambling at Lord Reay\'s Seat, but the little-visited Dionard side gives some of the most atmospheric scrambling in the area. The northern routes described here are mainly slabby gneiss, while further south are quartzite slabs fringing the enormous verticalities of Creag Urbhard.
