[As written] From the Gaelic Beinn Bhreac, meaning Dappled or Speckled Hill.
The Brack remains something of a mystery to many climbers. It falls well short of Munro status, which keeps most hillwalkers away; its dark, dank and vegetated north-east face deters all but the most adventurous summer rock climbers; and its low altitude and proximity to the coast mean that good winter conditions are rare. However, when those good winter conditions do arrive, there are some outstanding routes to be enjoyed.
The mountain has two crags, known as the lower and upper tiers. The lower tier is reached first on the approach, but is very rarely in condition and lacks stand-out routes so has not been included here. The committed can find information online. The upper tier is somewhat more reliable and has some classic lines.
