Craignaw

[As written] Possibly from the Gaelic Creag an Atha meaning Cliff of the Ford, for the crossing of the Silver Flowe below.
The crags on the east face of Craignaw are home to one of Galloway's best and best-known routes – Dow Spout.
Access to this crag (and to Dungeon Hill to its north) involves crossing the Silver Flowe, an area of internationally-significant wetlands. This route is utterly tortuous for most of the year, so climbers should count themselves lucky if they find it well-frozen.
