[Byn Dorran] Probably from the Gaelic Beinn Dobharan meaning Hill of the Small Stream.
The steep, grassy pyramid of Beinn Dòrain towers over the A82 just north of Tyndrum and is a familiar landmark for climbers heading north on that road.
At its north end, there is a high col separating it from Beinn an Dothaidh. The corrie overlooking Bridge of Orchy has cliffs on both the Beinn Dòrain side (Creag an Socach) and on the Beinn an Dothaidh side (Creag Coire an Dothaidh).
