[a-Cheer (ch as in ‘loch', whereas Cìr Mhòr has a hard ‘k' sound)] Gaelic, meaning Comb (as in, the crest of a cockerel's head).
A' Chir is best known to summer scramblers and winter climbers for its spectacular A' Chir Ridge, connecting Beinn Tarsuinn to Cìr Mhòr. This is on par with the best of the mainland ridge traverses, such as the Aonach Eagach in Glen Coe, though is slightly harder.
Coire Daingean, on the east side of the ridge south of the summit, has two main crags: the Headwall at the southern end of the ridge, sporting an obvious vertical fault which has so far repelled all attempts to climb it, and the Main Face slightly further north.
