A compact area which is very conveniently located right next to the road just south of Burrator Reservoir. It is an ideal spot when short on time or if the weather isn\'t good enough for the more exposed nearby crags of Down Tor or Combeshead. The rock is less weathered and quite different in character to much of Dartmoor and there are even a few roof problems - a rarity. Of particular note is Jungle V.I.P. (f7C+), a modern-style problem (i.e. strength required!) which has become one of the most popular of Dartmoor\'s harder lines.
The vast, open moorland of north Dartmoor is home to numerous tors, some bogs and generally limited bouldering. However, a day on this part of the moor can provide real isolation and a great outing for those willing to put the effort in. A proper map and some navigation ability may come in handy, or essential in less than ideal visibility. Problems at Sourton Tor, and Fur Tor have been described. The following is a selection of the best of the rest with brief introductions.
