Val Duron - Via Ferrata

The Val Duron is a beautiful unspoilt valley branching northwest off the Val di Fassa from Campitello. The valley is the best way to approach two excellent and remote via ferrata, Sentiero Massimiliano and Laurenzi - Molignon. Because of the remote nature of these via ferrata they are best combined with an overnight stay at Rifugio Alpe di Tires. For those wishing to walk to Rifugio Micheluzzi it takes 45 minutes. Cross the bridge heading up the steep gravel track following signs to 'Rifugio Micheluzzi'. After 1.5km you will reach Rifugio Baita Fraines. Immediately after this a small path branches off left signed 'Val Duron'. This small path runs parallel to the larger track and is a nice way to avoid the shuttling jeeps. Take the path and follow it steeply uphill through the woods for 25 minutes until you find yourself in open meadows with your first view of the Val Duron proper. Another 5 minutes walking brings you to Rifugio Micheluzzi. From Rifugio Micheluzzi, take path 532 along a large track leading up the valley. Follow this for 75 minutes until you reach the beautiful Docoldaura farmhouse in a truly idyllic spot. Another 20 minutes of uphill walking brings you to the Passo Duron where you turn left onto path 4, signed to 'Rifugio Alpe di Tires'. A further 15 minutes brings you to the rifugio, easily identified by its large wind turbine. See the following pages for the approaches from here to the wires.
