The Northeast

Located northeast of Svolvær, Nordre Austvågøya is the glaciated and unspoiled home of the Trolltindan mountains. These wild and stark mountains, sandwiched between the fjords of the Austnesfjorden and Higravfjorden in the west, and Øyhellsundet and the Raftsundet in the east, include the renown rocky peak of Rulten (1,062m) - perhaps Lofoten\'s most beautiful summit, and the narrow, granite-walled Trollfjorden - one of Norway\'s most famous and spectacular fjords. Climbs in the Trolltindan have retained a well-deserved reputation for their rugged, yet pristine wilderness and trips here are best considered as mini expeditions requiring a multi-day stay and the need for an experienced and self-sufficient team.
