Five minutes south of the Cheyne Weares car park are the flowstone-encrusted walls of the Neddyfields Bouldering Wall and Cheyne House Quarry. These two venues provide a high concentration of good quality, predominantly vertical, technical challenges on good rock. Steely fingers and precise footwork are required for success, particularly at the higher grades. The problems are more like the route climbing on Portland than many of the other bouldering areas, and have been a favourite training venue of locals for decades. Some of the flowstone features are truly remarkable and worth climbing for aesthetic reasons alone.
Though the base of the Neddyfields is wide and flat, it is not a child-friendly venue, because it is close to the cliff edge. Cheyne House Quarry is a bit scruffy.
The area was mainly developed by Pete Oxley in the early-to-mid 1990s with Jimbo Kimber ticking off the harder problems at the turn of the new millennium.
