Stetind

Many climbers who make the long trek to climb in the Magic Islands also aspire to tick the classic mountain of Stetind whilst they are in the area, either by the Sudøsteggen (N4+) or the Sydpilaren (N6-) - (the Southeast Ridge and the South Pillar). In all there are around 20 routes on the mountain of varying degrees of difficulty.
It is worth keeping in mind that these are big routes in a remote setting. They require good mountain skills, appropriate conditions and a full day for Sudøsteggen and Sydpilaren. The hard routes are an altogether different prospect and have seen few repeats.
Accommodation - There is a popular free camping spot right under Stetind with water and toilets and a sheltered area for cooking/sleeping - mosquitos can be an issue. The nearest official campgrounds (with cabins) are at Pippira Siida on the E6 towards Ballangen, and the extensive Ballangen Camping just east of the town. Ballangen also has shops, a post office and other amenities. Narvik has all that and much more.
