Esk Buttress

Standing at the head of the remote wilderness of Upper Eskdale, and surrounded by the highest of the Lake Districts fells, Esk Buttress commands a truly awe-inspiring position. The soaring walls and magnificent location are matched by its routes, many of which are icons of Lake District climbing. The crag offers both single and multi-pitch climbs, although it is the magnificent centrepiece of Central Pillar that is the real showpiece of the crag. The only drawback is the approach, which is long and wet underfoot despite being relatively level.
