Pikes Crag

Pikes Crag is a broad rampart consisting of a series of ridges dropping down from the slopes of Scafell Pike to scree above Brown Tongue. With vistas over Wast Water, the western fells and a bird's eye view of Scafell Crag, it is hard to imagine a more spectacular location to place a crag. The routes are long multi-pitch mountaineering-type offerings that follow complex lines up the various disjointed buttresses - route finding is important. The descent is also memorable, requiring a short abseil from the summit. The crag is also a much more reliable venue than the Scafell crags and makes an excellent alternative should the Scafell routes be out of condition or busy.
The whole crag is very exposed to the elements and should be avoided in rainy and/or windy weather.
