Grey Crag, like its near neighbour Eagle Crag, is located in a majestic setting at the head of Birkness Combe. The remote environment and awe-inspiring outlook give the climbs hereabouts a huge sense of atmosphere. Grey Crag is made up of a sunny series of stepped buttresses virtually devoid of vegetation on its best lines. It has fine rock which gives plenty of good protection and routes with a distinct mountaineering feel to them.
