Scafell Crag makes up the northwest ramparts of Scafell itself. Unmissable on the approach from Wasdale, the buttresses, deep gullies and slanting rakes form a complex spectacle among which are spread some historically significant trad climbs. Scafell Crag's top attractions are its Hard, Classic and Extreme Rock challenges on Central Buttress and the time-honoured expeditions dating from the very earliest days of rock climbing on Scafell Pinnacle.
