Deep Rake

Deep Rake is an odd hole in the ground set in some rolling fields on top of Longstone Edge. You can't see it from anywhere, but from it you can see everywhere from it with magnificent views towards the eastern gritstone edges on the approach. It is a long abandoned lead mine, later reworked for fluorspar which makes it a little different from most of the quarry workings in the area. The wall of interest to climbers is on the north side of the hole facing roughly south. It isn't the best quality rock, being slightly soft and dusty. The routes take fairly direct lines and give technical and sustained climbing especially in the blanker middle section. There is not much else to be added here. A few routes have been added to the south wall but these are best forgotten.
