Symonds Yat

The climbing at Symonds Yat is located on a long escarpment of variable quality limestone directly above the small settlement of Symonds Yat (East) and the River Wye. There is a vast amount of climbing available but only a selection of the best of the routes is described here. The geography of the cliff and its surrounds is complex and care needs to be taken on a first visit.
The area is extremely picturesque and a popular tourist destination, however the cliffs are set below the plateau where the viewpoints and car park are located and are rarely busy. The climbing takes a bit of getting used to and care is needed with both the rock and protection, even on the well-travelled climbs. That said, on a warm sunny day and with the river far below, it is a fine spot to tick off some memorable pitches.
