Staden Quarry

Staden Quarry is a wonderful open venue with a totally different atmosphere to most Peak quarries. Actual quarrying stopped here many years ago and the base is now a grassy meadow with little of the industrial landscape remaining. It is just a pleasant oval-shaped field with some decent 20 to 30m walls around it. Even better, the quarry workings left some stunning faces of weathered rock including a beautiful compact grey face with tufa-pipes and flowstone and a couple of other excellent quality slabs.
The other crag here is the steep shady wall known as Craig-y-Biceps (also known as Cow Dale). This bulging face is unclimbable for much of the year because of seepage, but when dry, it gives some entertaining steep sport routes on decent rock.
There are also some sport routes on the lower walls above the road, although these are not in the same class as the main quarry and a broken section left of Joint Effort Wall. These are covered in the Rockfax app.
