Manifold Valley

The imposing orifice of Thor\'s Cave overlooks the upper Manifold Valley and is a popular stop-off for walkers, so it is a crag which almost always feels busy although you will rarely find many climbers there. In the past the cave was mostly the domain of aid climbers, though there is also a fine west-facing wall overlooking a steep gully that drops down to the valley bottom. Tower Direct and West Window Groove are the main attractions here, but the other routes are worth looking at if you have the time. In more recent times the inside of the cave has been developed with a series of hard sport routes; these take complex lines across the three-dimensional architecture with spectacular positions and lower-offs in the middle of nowhere.
Also covered here is The Chimney - a small wall and cave with a set of sport routes, and Ossam\'s Crag which has one route that gets a little attention.
