Intake Quarry is a huge abandoned quarry near Matlock with a mixture of climbing on offer. There are some good sport walls with decent and popular routes and some less good stuff which doesn't see much attention. The most popular section is the relatively short Take Away Wall which has a good set of routes on clean rock. The more impressive Darkness Wall has longer routes and is probably where the best sport routes are located, although reaching the starts is challenging. The most impressive wall in the quarry is the Back Wall. This long continuous 30m high section has been developed with a mixture of sport and trad routes. Although it isn't popular, a few of the trad routes do see occasional ascents which are best described as 'adventures'. There are a few other walls that are mostly sport routes With a scattering of trad lines. These have the odd decent route but overall the quality isn't as good as the likes of Harpur Hill and Horseshoe.
