Lorry Park Quarry

This ugly quarry to the south of Matlock is not a very picturesque, consisting of a carpark, some collapsed buildings, lots of illegally tipped rubbish and several tottering soil heaps. Luckily there is also an excellent wall of compact rock which has been developed for hard sport climbing. It was first discovered years ago, but the main development took place in the early 1980s when the Lee brothers climbed the major crack-lines to give six trad routes. These failed to grab the imagination and repeats were few and far between. In the late 90s, Pete Cresswell came and plugged the gaps with a good set of hard sport routes. These have now been cleaned up again and a few harder routes added by Jon Clark. The old trad lines have now mostly been bolted making it a fully sport climbing crag.
