Slaley Brook

This huge quarry is hidden just off the Cromford to Buxton road, in the depths of the Via Gellia, and has some towering brown walls which offer some of the tallest quarry faces in the Peak. The route Too Monsterosity is a huge single 45m pitch and many of the others on the Monster Wall are at least 30m high. Sadly much of this wall suffers from loose rock, seepage in winter and a general dustiness which makes climbing hard and dirty work. If it ever cleaned up then the routes may well be magnificent but in their current state, they are too dusty to be considered classics. In contrast to this is the shorter Marble Wall, and its neighbour Morsel Wall, located on the other side of the quarry. Here you will find some mid-grade routes which dry rapidly and are relatively clean. With the current access difficulties, and the state of some of the rock, it is unlikely that the place will ever see much activity although Marble Wall is certainly worth a look if you are passing.
