St Bees Head is a gem of a place and a wonderful spot to go climbing; as an all-round experience, it has to rank with the nicest bouldering locations in the UK. The secret is that the bouldering here is tucked in a sun-trap underneath the 100m+ cliffs of St Bees Head - all that can be seen from here is the sea, the seals and the Isle of Man. The boulders are sandstone, often highly featured and mostly very solid with great variety throughout; there are crimpy walls, technical aretes, delicate slabs and burly overhangs and even a couple of cracks for good measure.
