Along with the Pudding Stone at Coniston, the Y Boulder in Mosedale has a claim as one of the earliest bouldering destinations in the world; though quite why the Victorian pioneers were inclined to walk all the way up Mosedale for this particular group is a bit of a mystery. Apart from this early venue and the excellent, but limited, Overbeck Boulder, Wasdale has not offered much bouldering until recently when the Stirrup Boulders were discovered.
