Frogsmouth Quarry

Frogsmouth Quarry is an old sandstone working that sits on top of a low hill amongst the suburbs of Runcorn. The routes are all sport climbs that tackle the various faces of vertical weathered sandstone which present a series of square-cut bays. The crag is quick to approach, sheltered, well bolted and gets sun from mid afternoon. The majority of the routes are face climbs that require good technique and finger strength; anyone not blessed with these assets will find the climbing a tough but safe experience. Many of the holds can be a touch sandy but this should not put anyone off making a visit, as for the most part the climbing itself is very good. The base of the cliff is tree covered which gives shade on sunny days. The whole area surrounding the crags has undergone much improvement over the years and is now a very pleasant place, however there is still a small hardcore of locals who still seem to like chucking things off of the top of the crag! Taking a bag along to pick up a bit of litter on a visit will help keep the place as clean as possible.
