Den Lane Quarry

Den Lane Quarry is an easily-approached outcrop just to the west of the pleasant small town of Upper Mill - birthplace of Troll, the outdoor company. The quarry has the usual smattering of graffiti and the odd bits of abandoned cars, though despite this the old spoil heaps hide the nearby town and the setting is quite tranquil. Many of the routes follow strenuous cracks and the rock is of reasonable quality. The best climbing is on the impressive Rake Wall though sadly the upper section of this is heathery and loose. The Long Wall is shorter but has some good strenuous climbs and the potential for some excellent fingery bouldering - the exits from the top of the wall are best described as ‘problematical’!
