Paradiset

Paradiset is located just to the southwest of the tiny fishing village of Kalle. It is a superb area of granite cliffs and boulders set beside the sparkling sea, with distant views of the mountains of the mainland. Paradiset is one of Lofoten\'s most popular climbing destinations for a variety of reasons; the high-friction quick-drying rock, a collection of easier climbs, the seascape, the impressive views of Vågakallen soaring high above, the beautiful jamming cracks and the wild camping close to the cliffs.
We cover the main routes dotted across the slabs and boulders of this complex area. There may well be more climbs here so, feel free to explore, but keep in mind the fact that most will have been climbed in the past but not claimed. If you find anything outstanding, let us know.
New Routes - Paradiset has been climbed on for over 60 years; the superb rock and magical atmosphere have always promoted a \'go anywhere\' attitude - so, in most cases, everything that can be climbed has been climbed. In Ed Webster\'s 1993 book a tiny number of routes was listed. In our 2008 book, the coverage was expanded listing and naming around 70 climbs, most of which had been done for years, many of these have become popular. Since then more \'new\' routes have been reported which leaves the guidebook writers in a slightly awkward position. If these routes are ignored they will doubtless get reported again, if they are listed with their new names, that could be seen as a slight on the work of the pioneers. In the end the \'new\' routes have been listed with FRA (First Recorded Ascent) indicating that it is possible/probable many of these climbs has been done before.
