Baggy Point

The jutting prows of Baggy Point have for many decades been the traditional venue for high quality slab climbing in the West Country. The slabs are composed of excellent, compact sandstone which is cut by numerous thin cracks and overlaps that conveniently provide many of the routes with good protection. There is something here to please most teams with plenty of climbing that ranges from Diff to E5, although the need for abseil approaches and some friable rock and tidal considerations it is not for the inexperienced.
There is little in the way of bird restrictions and with fair weather and a calm sea tidal problems can be reduced by some forward planning. Although perhaps best avoided in the depths of winter the cliffs sunny aspect and lack of seepage means that good conditions can often be found from early spring through to late autumn. The coast hereabouts is a very popular tourist destination and the beach and attractions of Croyde and nearby Woolacombe are easily combined with the climbing.
