Roche Rock

Roche Rock with its 15th century ruined chapel perched on its summit has a long standing folklore attributed to it, and was among the first crags in the West Country to be explored and have its climbs recorded. The climbs have stood the test of time; and today still give many their first climbing experience. For the holidaying visitor it is a very good spot to head for on the way to or from the crags further west being a quick drive from the A30 and a swift approach to the crag itself. The geology of Roche Rock is scroal - a mix of quartz and felspar set in tourmaline that looks like granite, and like granite is a joy to handle and climb on.
