Beeston Cliff

The long stretch of low crags and boulder fields that run from the lighthouse to the cluster of beach huts are mainly the habitat of the boulderer, although there are a couple of spots that require a rope or some swimming kit (if you intend to fall in!). The narrow inlet of Deep Zawn lies under the prominent red crane and has some sheer but short walls and reliably deep water. Deep Zawn is a great place to enjoy some low stress deep water soloing although some of the moves are pretty fierce. A little further along the coast is Sector Pom Pom, a secluded little bay that contains a wave of grit-like stone, pitted with infrequent pockets; the climbs are all sport routes and very much in the style of extended boulder problems.
The undulating line of secluded bays that compose Beeston Cliff are a mishmash of venues that vary from serious trad and deep water solo cliffs to pleasant lower-grade sport crags. This is a quiet location that is often overlooked and is consequently worth considering at busy times if looking to get away from the crowds. The Golden Pants Area and Limekiln Cave are rarely visited, the former having some good but fierce little wall pitches and the latter a number of lines hindered by tidal considerations. The gem of Beeston Cliff is the Bay of Rainbows with its spread of easier sport climbs on fantastic flowstone, some of which make good deep water solos. In contrast the nearby Hidden Wall and Amphitheatre are a totally different ball game, having some serious high grade trad and deep water solos.
