The extremely popular Winspit Quarry is a fantastic sport climbing venue that is now firmly established as one of the UKs most reliable spots to climb, even in the depths of winter. The quarry presents walls that face in various directions allowing sun, shade or shelter from the wind to be found on most days. There is even a good chance of getting something done if it is raining, although the walk in is long and certainly not rainproof. With good climbing available ranging from grade 4s to to the high 7s there is a lot here to keep most happy and it is a particularly popular destination for parties of mixed abilities. The most frequented area is the Quarryman\'s Wall that has many lines that are well bolted and often a little steeper than they might first appear. The South Face is very different proposition having harder climbing mainly centred around tiered overhangs set above cave entrances, whilst the West Quarry sports some varied lines on walls, cracks and corners. The base of the quarry is a pleasant place to relax and perched well above the sea, although for those after a swim the rocky beach of Winspit Cove is only a minute or so away. As a bonus the pub and village from where the approach begins are simply idyllic.
