Chaulet Plage

Chaulet is everything you might expect of an Ardèche crag; sunny limestone, great routes across a wide range of difficulties, camping within a stone's throw and a river that is sure to cool you off in the middle of a summer's day. The central section of crag has a lovely rock-beach that slopes down into the river - perfect for lazy picnics and serious sun-bathing. The climbing is also top notch; excellent-quality rock and some beautiful, well-bolted routes. The idyllic beach does mean that the crag is quite popular and some of the routes are showing signs of age and polish, especially at the right-hand end of the crag. The crag faces south, and the only shade to be found is amongst the trees at the left-hand side. During the winter, it's a great sun-trap, but in the summer be prepared to get hot.
