Harpur Hill

The quarried plateau of Harpur Hill is clearly visible on the hill overlooking Buxton. Its stark outline hides a large expanse of walls and quarries connected on different levels by tracks and paths. Virtually every section has now been developed and mostly with sport routes (almost 350) offering a variety of mostly vertical climbing on rock that varies from slightly dubious to excellent. One nice feature of the place is that there are still a few trad routes - around 40 - which generally follow the better-protected cracks and grooves. The Seven Deadly Sins and The Seven Deadly Virtues are great routes which are worth packing your wires and cams for.
Safety note - There is loose rock here and there have been accidents. A helmet is a good idea, as is belaying in a position that isn't directly below the leader.
