California has historically been a playground for the big boys and girls, with most routes being serious undertakings. The only mid-grade route of quality used to be Californian Arete at E1 - a 35m solo! The routes on the main wall are amazing, with Central Sadness and Waves of Inspiration being two of the best E5s in the quarries. More recently, the addition of We Speak No Americano! has added to the appeal for the mid-grade climber. For those in search of esoteria, there is even some aid climbing hidden amongst the routes, some of it very demanding in nature.
