Sas dla Crusc/Sasso della Croce

The distinctive west face of Sas dla Crusc dominates the skyline of the Val Badia. The cliff is one of the best examples of the enrosadira phenomena found in the Dolomites, where the setting sun causes a lovely pink glow. Subsequently the west face and the beautiful chapel at its base are a familiar sight on many postcards. From a climbers' perspective, Sas dla Crusc offers several outstanding steep trad routes. In particular Messner's Grande Muro is one of the best climbs in the area and is highly recommended. It does have an arduous approach but this is more than compensated for by the quality of the climbing and uncomplicated descent. Take the two stage Santa Croce/La Crusc chairlift (which runs from late June to late September) to the top station. Then follow signs up to the chapel and Rifugio La Crusc - about 5 minutes.
